A beautiful vintage pair of Audubon bird illustrations, featuring two classic North American water birds:
• American Snipe — Scolopax Wilsonii, Plate 243
• Great Northern Diver or Loon — Plate 306
Inspired by the celebrated bird illustrations of John James Audubon, these wonderfully detailed images feature birds in their natural wetland settings, surrounded by grasses, water and marshland scenery.
The warm aged-paper tones and muted greens, browns and black make them especially lovely for a cottage, lake house, study, library, nature-inspired room or vintage gallery wall.
I love these displayed together as a pair, but they would also look beautiful mixed into a larger collection of botanical, bird or natural-history prints.
Vintage condition: Both show expected age-related wear, including surface scuffs, small marks and edge wear to the surrounding boards. Please see photos for details. The imperfections add to their vintage character.
